Clinical Laboratory Scientist needed in Newport Beach!

Performs a range of standard and/or technically demanding procedures in one or more of the Clinical
Laboratory disciplines exercising initiative and independent judgment. Communicates technical or general
information to their manager, director, & medical staff. May provide instruction in the basic theory,
technical skills and application of laboratory test procedures. May provide functional supervision to
support personnel.
Performance of analytical procedures:
o Performs a range of standard procedures in one or more of the clinical laboratory disciplines.
o Recognizes critical or significant findings.
o Operates instruments and other equipment following established procedures.
o Performs calibration, standardization and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
o Performs simple trouble-shooting activities according to established guidelines.
o Disseminates laboratory test information in a timely manner.
o Utilizes the laboratory information system or other established systems to verify and document results.
Performance of quality management & performance improvement:
o Demonstrates behaviors that support performance improvement activities.
o Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practices of quality management and performance
improvement.
o Monitors accuracy and precision of laboratory tests personally performed.
o Adheres to quality control protocols to assure accuracy of results.
Qualified candidates must have a current, active license as a CLS, and have at least 2 years of experience. They must have an understanding of Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office Applications. ASCP Board of Registry certification as a Medical Technologist highly desired! Responsibilities include:
o Processes blood, bacteria and other specimens for the recovery of nucleic acids in accordance with laboratory procedures.
o Performs restrictions endonuclease digestions on nucleic acids.
o Amplifies nucleic acid by techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse transcriptase PCR.
o Modifies and separates nucleic acids by various techniques including but not limited to electrophoresis, blotting, and hybridization capture.
o Detects mutations and sequence variations by various techniques including but not limited to sequence analysis, conformational analysis, and differential hybridization.
o Applies proper sterile technique to avoid molecular assay ampileon or cross-contamination.
o Ensures the proper handling and storage of all specimens received for testing.
o Maintains complete records for all laboratory test systems in accordance with departmental policies and Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments (CLIA) '88.
o Participates in activities with Infectious Disease/Molecular Diagnostics Unit to ensure quality assurance, quality control and safety requirements meet CLIA '88 and participates in proficiency testing.
o Use professional judgment with all testing and analysis procedures.
o Records and reports results in a complete and timely manner.
o Communicates with other public health departments and outside entities concerning laboratory results and related issues.
o Maintains inventory of laboratory reagents and other supplies.
o Assists in the development and implementation of new test systems.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include:
o Bachelor's Degree in chemical, biological, or physical sciences or medical technology from an accredited college or university, supplemented by 1 of professional clinical experience; Medical Technology certification is desirable.
o Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pipettes, pH meters, balances, centrifuges and other standard or specialized laboratory equipment preferred.
o Full command, verbal and written, of the English language.
o Current Health Certificate (contract specific).
o Current PPD (contract specific).
o Successful completion of Maxim background screening and hiring process.
o Successful completion of Maxim screening exam(s) with a passing score of 80% or greater.
